Two different numbers, doing two different jobs. The stocks table above is inventory — a leading indicator of where price pressure builds next. This table is what a truck actually pays at the pump today. They disagree sometimes, and when they do it usually means a region is drawing down stock without having repriced yet. That gap is the one worth watching.

What this tool does and doesn't tell you. It shows regional inventory position and current regional retail diesel for the regions at each end of your lane. It is not a rate quote, it does not predict prices, and it does not name individual stations. It also does not know your actual route — if a lane crosses regions between its endpoints, run those states as their own lane to see them. Inventory and price are two inputs among several; refinery outages, weather, state taxes and local demand all move the number too. Use it to find which lanes deserve a closer look, not to set a surcharge on its own.

Worth keeping in perspective. The East Coast tightness is real, but national distillate production is running 5,338 thousand barrels per day — up 3.2% year over year. This is a distribution and inventory story, not a supply shortage. Distribution problems are the kind you can route around.
